First off I would have bet bigger on the flop. With two clubs and only one high card you almost certainly have him beaten. Best case he's on a club draw. You could scare him off with a big bet, but that's still better than ending up where you did, with that third club coming on the river and him acting like he hit it. I would then have put him all in on the turn. There are still the two clubs to worry about and the J is a scare card if you put him on two high cards. By checking the turn you allowed him to make this move on the river. I think you have to call, especially because it would not bust you and you're getting two to one on your money. More than likely he's moving all in to scare you off.

Just submitted a big post but it doesn't look like it registered for some reason. Maybe it will come up later (it was fairly long). Anyway, in short, I think you should have called the river bet. Not worried about the flush card .... more worried about trips, but I'd have to see it. If the other post shows up it will explain why.
