This is a quick hit post with a HH in question as well as a sick setup hand I witnessed for a BIG pot and as usual, my random musings...

So here we go. Yesterday, Bayne hits me up on gchat and tells me about this kick ass promotion that FullTilt is running. I can't put the direct link in here because unfortunately, my donk work blocks gambling sites. How ghey is that??? How gay is spelling ghey? I told you, this would be random...

Anyways, to make a long story longer, the bonus that FullTilt is giving is a year end bonus where they will give you a certain dollar amount based on how many months you qualified for the different levels of ironman. Since I don't have the details and I was too selfish to care about bronze or silver, I can't remember the bonus amounts for those (I would assume $25 and $50, respectively, for each month). I do know that it's $75 for Gold and $100 for Ironman... for each month that you qualified. You know what this means? Since I've qualified for Ironman every month this year except for one (I had gold that month), I am on pace to get $1,175 in bonus money on Fulltilt. Now if that doesn't kick ass, I don't know what does. I do know that when Bayne sent me the link yesterday and told me about it, I was very excited. When I got home and looked at my Fulltilt promotion screen and saw that so far, I am qualified for $975 (assuming, I will qualify for ironman this month and next, it will be $1,175), I almost came in my pants. You like that, LJ? :) (If this doesn't start ridiculous rumors, I don't know what will - FYI, it's an inside joke... that also my nonpoker playing friends should enjoy as well). JamyHawk, how do you like them points!

Well, last night, I missed the MATH. Recently, working out has become somewhat of a priority for me (silly me) and I really think it has to do with the point system that the YMCA has which I told you all about. I am half way to a key chain!!! WOOT! So, anyways, I was at work till about 7ish, went home, got ready and got to the gym around 8:00. I worked out, then went to Ukrops (grocery store) to get some food and by the time I got home, it was after 10pm... bummer, considering it was a rebuy and I was actually excited about it. Oh well, all that means is no dead money for the rest of you.

I told you this post will be short... Apparently, I don't know how to keep blog posts short... I'm wordy... what can I say?

Alright, one quick question. Here's a hand from the tournament I played in a few nights ago.

Full Tilt Poker Game #4275291155: $5 + $0.50 Knockout (32353484), Table 40 - 60/120 - No Limit Hold'em - 21:07:03 ET - 2007/11/23
Seat 1: JiminyCrick (7,470)
Seat 2: skysthelimitGK (2,760)
Seat 3: RecessRampage (2,740)
Seat 4: mkqueens (5,990)
Seat 5: markborror (3,635)
Seat 6: Mister OG (3,950)
Seat 7: MadMik33x (1,325)
Seat 8: Mental Magee (1,995)
Seat 9: subversion x (2,335)
subversion x posts the small blind of 60
JiminyCrick posts the big blind of 120
The button is in seat #7

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to RecessRampage [Ad Qs]
skysthelimitGK folds
RecessRampage calls 120

I normally wouldn't limp with this hand here... but, I remembered what LJ had said to me before about limping from EP and then repopping to represent aces or kings, or get a small stack to push. So, I decided that this might be a good time to try that. I thought that if I limp, there might be a good chance that MadMik33x (shortstack) would shove, thinking I was weak. And considering his range, there's a good chance I'm ahead and if not, I'm flipping for it so either way, I thought it would be a good time to try to get some chips in the middle since I'm starting to get short.

mkqueens folds
markborror folds
Mister OG folds
MadMik33x has 15 seconds left to act
MadMik33x raises to 1,325, and is all in <--- takes the bait
subversion x raises to 2,335, and is all in
JiminyCrick folds
RecessRampage folds
subversion x shows [Jc As]
MadMik33x shows [Ac Js]
Uncalled bet of 1,010 returned to subversion x

I mean... so MadMik33x shoved and was perfectly the way I planned it and I was about to instacall... untill subversion comes in and thwarts that plan. At this point, I can't make this call right? I mean this is an obvious fold situation right? Please confirm. F*ckin jackace.

*** FLOP *** [Qc Ts 8s]
*** TURN *** [Qc Ts 8s] [7s]
*** RIVER *** [Qc Ts 8s 7s] [6c]
subversion x shows Ace Queen high
MadMik33x shows Ace Queen high
subversion x ties for the pot (1,445) with Ace Queen high
MadMik33x ties for the pot (1,445) with Ace Queen high

Sick to think I coulda pretty much tripled up AND knocked out two players for the bounty. The only question is that maybe the pot odds would dictate that I make that call? Shit, I didn't even think about that until it got back to me. Let me know your thoughts. I would really love to know. I probably fucked up... shit...

Oh, and here's the sick set up hand... I mean AA vs KK is sick enough... both hitting a set on the flop is also sick... The pot was like over $3,000.... sick....

Depends on how much you want to gamble. Running into two people with AJ is rarely going to happen, instead it's more likely you're going to be flipping with one, and the other probably has one of your outs (An ace). AQ against a shorty like you said is fine, but against some who comes over the top as well, AQ blows (AQ sucks in general, though).

Then again, this is a $5 buy-in, so maybe your AQ is gold there.

I am also very excited about the iron man promotion for December. Although I am not nearly as excited as you obviously. The only think is bonus money comes out of rake back so I need to sit down and figure out which is worth more. Hopefully if rake back is worth more I can just email them and have them take my bonus away.

A little of topic, but thought I would post it here.

What is your stance on trash talking at the table. I'm not sure what it was but last night I played in two different tables and was getting talked down to. I know the players were mad I was getting the cards, but I can't stand when I get lucky and they tell me stupid play. Of cource, it got in my head too and I lost a hand I shouldn't have.

Later on that night another player was pulling the same card. Mentioning how I was calling when I shouldn't have been (even though I won the hand). He continued talking trash, including saying he had a flush, when his hand ended up being 2 pair.

What do you (and your readers) think of trash talking while playing? Do you do this? Does it drive you crazy when others do it?

Keep up the good work, and glad to see you posting agian.

Anonymous, interesting topic. Actually, I might want to make this a post but my general theory is this. It's my money and it's my cards so I will play however the fuck I want to play with it. I don't care about the trash talk and it's almost like another game to make sure it doesn't get to me. It's like basketball right? There are tons of trash talkers out there who try to intimidate you or get you off your shooting (ie, tilt you) and you just can't let it get to you. Either that or you gotta start firing back but if you do, make sure you're not playing into their hands.

I believe I used the word cream.

Hard to say with AQ. Depends a lot on how active those players have been, but I think in a 5 dollar tournament I'm gonna take a chance there.

I don't like to limp AQ with the hope of having a shorty go all in and then calling. I much prefer to open raise and define everybody's hand. If after your early position raise the shortstack pushes, the guy with AJ should fold and then it'd be an easy call for you.

I would only like the play from a meta-game stance. As long as sometimes you are going to limp aces in early, you have to make sure that you also limp other hands so as to not be easy to read.

Isn't subversion x raising to isolate? So I would put him on weak A or small pp. With AA or KK he can call the all in and hope to pick up a few more chips from you. That's my opinion, but you said you were willing to race. I would have figured even more you are racing against subversion x.

Easy call for me (easy to say now, of course).
