PAPT Pwnage... Again

For those that don't really get poker, it just seems like a game of luck. I mean look at the WSOP for example. Every year, a no name newbie comes in and wins a tournament, making them insta-celebrities. The "professional" poker players aren't taking it down. So, to a casual observer, they think, see, it's all about getting lucky. It's gambling.

And can you dispute that? I mean even amongst the bloggers (the group that is allegedly better poker players than the general public), there are tons of people that berate their luck, call themselves the unluckiest players in the world, donkeys are harder to beat because they chase everything, etc etc. Even my non-blogging poker playing friends say idiotic stuff like lower level cash games are harder to beat because the players suck and they will call you with anything. I mean... that's pretty much as dumb as it gets. What up, JT and Sia. :)

However, if poker was so luck-based, then everyone should have an equal chance of winning right? I mean if luck plays such a big part and if it's even harder to beat donkeys, then how could someone (ie me) put together results like this???

5 indicates a win and 3 indicates a second place finish. Those are the number of points that you get for the 1st and 2nd place finishes, respectively. If this consistency isn't considered pwnage, I don't know what is. And for one of the weeks that I didn't get points, I think I didn't show...

Honestly though, this isn't meant to be a brag post. I mean here I am, a poker blogger who reads, studies, and plays every day vs a group of guys who get together and play a friendly game on a weekly basis is really not fair... it would be like Kobe Bryant playing in a high school basketball game or something... These guys play a fairly tight, aggressive but straight forward game and that's pretty much the only reason I can take this thing down very frequently. But the Player of the Year award is now up to $600. There are 4 weeks remaining (one of which I will be in Vegas) and I'm only ahead of the 2nd place guy by 9 pts (I curse the spring months when I didn't play much). This will be a fun stretch!

You're a luckbox and a donkey, end of story. That's why you win. Because, like everyone says, it's harder to beat the bad players because they chase everything, never fold, always get lucky, etc. That's totally you. Time to face the facts, my friend.

lol @ Mike's comment.

Alan, you are a very good player. Results show that. Sometimes, though, the poker gods just bite you in the arse and don't let go.

Blogger tournaments are so unpredictable since there is a great variety of playing styles. However, when so many bloggers delight in taking down a pot with "da hammer," I don't even want to hear how some people show little respect in their calls.

I'm not arguing with your basic premise that poker is more than pure luck, but your argument is flawed in its logic. Your impressive stats could merely be because you are getting a disproportionate portion of luck over the short term. That's not what I think is happening, but your string of wins does not in and of itself prove that the game is not heavily luck-related. All that said, nice run! I've been there before myself, most notably in the Roose Game, where I consistently cash whenever I play. It IS a sign of superior skill, but as posed in your post, I don't think it necessarily supports your argument alone.

Get off your high horse. I've counted the number of wins (1,3,5) and you have about 15. I got about 11 and I missed almost 4-6 months b/c of my kid. You forgot to mention that the blinds are ridiculous at the end and it's pretty much a race to see who can get the best cards in the shortest amount of time. LUCKILY for you, you've been getting the chips in when you got the hands at the end of the high blinds. For me, I'll just have to cry about my 8 3rd place finishes.

Maybe I should of used more little words for you Rhino-boy. I counted a win as any place finished. The point was once you get to the last 3, the blinds are what 15-30, 20-40 (everyone starts with 175), it's pretty much a crap shoot. Who's got the cards and who's got the sac to make the other guys think they got the cards. You've been on the better end of that for a while. Just get your nerdy, geeky, skinny Asian arse over to Baileys so the waitresses can make fun of us some more.

Yeah, you "should of", you retard. And FYI, even though we all start with 175, by the time it's heads up, we have approx 700 and yes, the blinds are like 20-40. Not unusual in terms of M and the HU situation. But you wouldn't know anything about that since you're so good and you always "win" your 3rd place prize. Stop using your kid as an excuse. Face the facts. You suck at poker. You got pwned biatch.

You may win the little tourneys of 6,7,8 people, but when we had the slightly bigger tourneys of 15,16,17 you were nowhere to be seen in the top 3. I've cashed in all of them, BIATCH!

Well...you do own the PAPT but there is 1 huge reason for that...I MOVED.
So you can thank S. Florida for your ascent to #1 seedville.

As for the "idiotic stuff like lower level cash games are harder to beat beause the players suck and they will call you with anything...."....
I don't think JT or myself ever said it in those words...

In fact, I don't think either of us would have said...."harder to beat" cause that's just not true. And i'm also thinking that when JT brought that concept up, he was talking about tourneys....not cash games...but I digress.

Regardless...there are a lot of donks in those Internet low level cash games/tourneys...but comparing them to the people in the PAPT isn't really accurate. Problem with the PAPT players is that they are mostly too predictable (which could be called donk-ish, but that's not really what I think of when I use that word). I'm shocked some of these PAPT players haven't adjusted.

You better hope I don't move back.
