I am not Fuel... and table trash talk/etiquette

EDIT - hmmm.... this was supposed to be my post for Wed... but then I go and take down another PAPT so I was gonna push it back to Thurs... but then I go and take down the Mookie... so this post gets pushed back to Friday... and then Hoy goes on a rant so the second half of this looks like I'm addressing what Hoy wrote but honest to god, I wrote this earlier in the week... Anyways, this is where it woulda started if things went according to plan (ie, if I didn't win these tourneys)... And in reviewing the HH that happened at the bottom, apparently, I've been running good all week!

As I was looking through some stuff on PokerTracker and trying to analyze my game, I ran into this little gem. Basically, I have my PT stats filtered to only this year... and so I was trying to determine the winners and losers and what type of hands are my biggest leaks, etc, when I noticed the following...

Apparently, presto is not gold... or is gold, only to those who know how to use it...

Now most people will end their post here and move on... but, then again, we already determined that I never write short posts... so I will address one thing real quick that an anonymous commenter had mentioned in my post yesterday (and btw, if you haven't read the comments on my post from yesterday, it's worth a read... pretty funny comments by these two jokers. This was what mr. anonymous commented:

What is your stance on trash talking at the table. I'm not sure what it was but last night I played in two different tables and was getting talked down to. I know the players were mad I was getting the cards, but I can't stand when I get lucky and they tell me stupid play. Of cource, it got in my head too and I lost a hand I shouldn't have.

Later on that night another player was pulling the same card. Mentioning how I was calling when I shouldn't have been (even though I won the hand). He continued talking trash, including saying he had a flush, when his hand ended up being 2 pair.

What do you (and your readers) think of trash talking while playing? Do you do this? Does it drive you crazy when others do it?

I somewhat addressed this in the comment section but basically, this is where I stand. Who cares what other people say about how you played your hand in the chat box? If you're not looking for feedback, don't bother listening to them. Hell, turn off the chat if you want. In basketball, there are tons of guys who talk a lot of trash in order to throw you off your game (ie, put you on tilt). It's no different on the felt. So what if you were chasing a draw and got lucky? So what if you CALLED an all in with K-10 and cracked someone else's AK. The way I see it, it's your money and it's your cards. Play however the fuck you want to. But don't get rattled by what others say in the chat box. If you notice that you are getting rattled, I say turn off the chat. Don't let something silly like that tilt you. Of course, you could talk back... but you better know what you are doing. In other words, you don't want to play into someone else's game. So, if you're gonna talk trash back, make sure you are well versed. You don't want to get into some bickering match where it would take you off your game. And if you don't think you can trash talk with the best of them, just say, thank you or something. I think one thing that irks those talkers more are those that don't even give them the time of day. Just ignore them. They'll go away. Remember. It's your money. You don't have to justify to anyone how you play your game. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so if they call you a donkey, a lucksac, luckbunny, etc, who cares?

Any thoughts by other bloggers? I'm sure Mr Anonymous would appreciate other views.

Oh, and you wanna see some serious luckboxery which resulted from me totally misreading someone? Here's my HH of the day...

Tournament of Champions? Huh? Me? I'm in!

EDIT - linked everyone, added cmitch to the list of railers. Thanks for the comments everyone.

I'll post details later. I'm exhausted. But I gotta do this now. 2:20am? Perfect. I'll get about 5hrs of sleep.

So I'm in the 27 seat (I believe it's actually 26 now since xxMagicianxx won two seats, right?) Tournament of Champions to compete for a $18,000 Australia package. To say that I got lucky tonight is an understatement. Honestly, I'm not even gonna try to tell you how I played well or whatever... because when you get the cards that I got, it really doesn't matter. The grossest of them all was this one...

Sellthekids and I are heads up and basically he's got me covered 2:1 in chips. We get it all in and I am waaaaaaay behind (Mookie said, 93% vs 7%... too tired to check) when he flips over AA vs my A6... and this madness ensues...

This leads eventually to the final hand where I complete from the SB with K7, he checks and I flop top two. I check to him, he shoves, I instacall and that's all she wrote.

Like I said, even getting to this point, I got very lucky. I only got sucked out on once when my KK lost to AQ for a very big pot. However, my chipstack was very healthy so I wasn't totally dead. I think I was down to around 20k with about 12 people remaining but I recovered. And again, I don't really tilt over bad beats so I let that roll off my back and just kept playing.

I'm not gonna go into details now since I'm exhausted but suffice to say, pretty much anyone can win a tournament when you get cards like this:

AA x 1
AK x 8
AQ x 4
KK x 5
QQ x 3
JJ x 5
TT x 1

I guess those are the premium hands. And for good measure, 99 x 2.

It was sick. I won several big hands with AK including this critical one...

I guess for most people, it's an instacall? I mean the point is to win so obviously you have to call but I guess I always have to think about these things... I guess that's why I'm no good in tourneys. But at least I got it right.

Now the inordinate amount of good cards I got can only be attributed to karma. Today, I transferred some money on FTP to InstantTragedy since he recently purchased a gift for Doc Chaco in Iraq. I don't even know Doc but I support what IT was doing so I just wanted to help out. Well, maybe the poker gods saw my good deed and decided to treat me. Who knows. I got lucky and poker is so easy when you get lucky. Who ever said this game is skill based???? (sarcasm based on my post from yesterday)

I also want to thank everyone that railed me at one point or another and esp the final table. Buddy hammered on the radio was hilarious and that and all the table banter made the final table a very entertaining one. I am afraid that if I list the names, I'll forget but I'll give it a shot. Also, I'll link you all up tomorrow, not that most of you needs it since everybody probably reads your blog before they read mine. Ok, in no particular order, here goes. Again, thanks Chad, LJ, InstantTragedy, JamyHawk, Pirate Lawyer, MClarich, Schaubs, Lightning36, pushmonkey, cmitch... I'm probably forgetting someone and if so, I am very sorry. Let me know, esp if you want to be linked up. Also, thanks Mookie for pointing out how much of a dog I was in that A6 vs AA hand... errr, I mean thanks for hosting. Dammit... it's 3am. GG to all. And thank you again for the support and entertainment.

PAPT Pwnage... Again

For those that don't really get poker, it just seems like a game of luck. I mean look at the WSOP for example. Every year, a no name newbie comes in and wins a tournament, making them insta-celebrities. The "professional" poker players aren't taking it down. So, to a casual observer, they think, see, it's all about getting lucky. It's gambling.

And can you dispute that? I mean even amongst the bloggers (the group that is allegedly better poker players than the general public), there are tons of people that berate their luck, call themselves the unluckiest players in the world, donkeys are harder to beat because they chase everything, etc etc. Even my non-blogging poker playing friends say idiotic stuff like lower level cash games are harder to beat because the players suck and they will call you with anything. I mean... that's pretty much as dumb as it gets. What up, JT and Sia. :)

However, if poker was so luck-based, then everyone should have an equal chance of winning right? I mean if luck plays such a big part and if it's even harder to beat donkeys, then how could someone (ie me) put together results like this???

5 indicates a win and 3 indicates a second place finish. Those are the number of points that you get for the 1st and 2nd place finishes, respectively. If this consistency isn't considered pwnage, I don't know what is. And for one of the weeks that I didn't get points, I think I didn't show...

Honestly though, this isn't meant to be a brag post. I mean here I am, a poker blogger who reads, studies, and plays every day vs a group of guys who get together and play a friendly game on a weekly basis is really not fair... it would be like Kobe Bryant playing in a high school basketball game or something... These guys play a fairly tight, aggressive but straight forward game and that's pretty much the only reason I can take this thing down very frequently. But the Player of the Year award is now up to $600. There are 4 weeks remaining (one of which I will be in Vegas) and I'm only ahead of the 2nd place guy by 9 pts (I curse the spring months when I didn't play much). This will be a fun stretch!

Untitled

This is a quick hit post with a HH in question as well as a sick setup hand I witnessed for a BIG pot and as usual, my random musings...

So here we go. Yesterday, Bayne hits me up on gchat and tells me about this kick ass promotion that FullTilt is running. I can't put the direct link in here because unfortunately, my donk work blocks gambling sites. How ghey is that??? How gay is spelling ghey? I told you, this would be random...

Anyways, to make a long story longer, the bonus that FullTilt is giving is a year end bonus where they will give you a certain dollar amount based on how many months you qualified for the different levels of ironman. Since I don't have the details and I was too selfish to care about bronze or silver, I can't remember the bonus amounts for those (I would assume $25 and $50, respectively, for each month). I do know that it's $75 for Gold and $100 for Ironman... for each month that you qualified. You know what this means? Since I've qualified for Ironman every month this year except for one (I had gold that month), I am on pace to get $1,175 in bonus money on Fulltilt. Now if that doesn't kick ass, I don't know what does. I do know that when Bayne sent me the link yesterday and told me about it, I was very excited. When I got home and looked at my Fulltilt promotion screen and saw that so far, I am qualified for $975 (assuming, I will qualify for ironman this month and next, it will be $1,175), I almost came in my pants. You like that, LJ? :) (If this doesn't start ridiculous rumors, I don't know what will - FYI, it's an inside joke... that also my nonpoker playing friends should enjoy as well). JamyHawk, how do you like them points!

Well, last night, I missed the MATH. Recently, working out has become somewhat of a priority for me (silly me) and I really think it has to do with the point system that the YMCA has which I told you all about. I am half way to a key chain!!! WOOT! So, anyways, I was at work till about 7ish, went home, got ready and got to the gym around 8:00. I worked out, then went to Ukrops (grocery store) to get some food and by the time I got home, it was after 10pm... bummer, considering it was a rebuy and I was actually excited about it. Oh well, all that means is no dead money for the rest of you.

I told you this post will be short... Apparently, I don't know how to keep blog posts short... I'm wordy... what can I say?

Alright, one quick question. Here's a hand from the tournament I played in a few nights ago.

Full Tilt Poker Game #4275291155: $5 + $0.50 Knockout (32353484), Table 40 - 60/120 - No Limit Hold'em - 21:07:03 ET - 2007/11/23
Seat 1: JiminyCrick (7,470)

Seat 3: RecessRampage (2,740)
Seat 4: mkqueens (5,990)
Seat 5: markborror (3,635)
Seat 6: Mister OG (3,950)
Seat 7: MadMik33x (1,325)
Seat 8: Mental Magee (1,995)
Seat 9: subversion x (2,335)
subversion x posts the small blind of 60
JiminyCrick posts the big blind of 120
The button is in seat #7

*** HOLE CARDS ***

skysthelimitGK folds
RecessRampage calls 120

I normally wouldn't limp with this hand here... but, I remembered what LJ had said to me before about limping from EP and then repopping to represent aces or kings, or get a small stack to push. So, I decided that this might be a good time to try that. I thought that if I limp, there might be a good chance that MadMik33x (shortstack) would shove, thinking I was weak. And considering his range, there's a good chance I'm ahead and if not, I'm flipping for it so either way, I thought it would be a good time to try to get some chips in the middle since I'm starting to get short.

mkqueens folds
markborror folds
Mister OG folds
MadMik33x has 15 seconds left to act
MadMik33x raises to 1,325, and is all in <--- takes the bait
subversion x raises to 2,335, and is all in
JiminyCrick folds
RecessRampage folds
subversion x shows [Jc As]
MadMik33x shows [Ac Js]
Uncalled bet of 1,010 returned to subversion x

I mean... so MadMik33x shoved and was perfectly the way I planned it and I was about to instacall... untill subversion comes in and thwarts that plan. At this point, I can't make this call right? I mean this is an obvious fold situation right? Please confirm. F*ckin jackace.

*** FLOP *** [Qc Ts 8s]
*** TURN *** [Qc Ts 8s] [7s]
*** RIVER *** [Qc Ts 8s 7s] [6c]
subversion x shows Ace Queen high
MadMik33x shows Ace Queen high
subversion x ties for the pot (1,445) with Ace Queen high
MadMik33x ties for the pot (1,445) with Ace Queen high

Sick to think I coulda pretty much tripled up AND knocked out two players for the bounty. The only question is that maybe the pot odds would dictate that I make that call? Shit, I didn't even think about that until it got back to me. Let me know your thoughts. I would really love to know. I probably fucked up... shit...

Oh, and here's the sick set up hand... I mean AA vs KK is sick enough... both hitting a set on the flop is also sick... The pot was like over $3,000.... sick....

Back to my bread and butter...

Before I start, my new TV kicks ass. I have not watched any DVDs or anything so I am only basing this on the HD channels from Comcast but still, it is pretty freakin amazing. Lining up at 4:30am was totally worth it!

Alright, having said that, here are some HHs... The first one, I would definitely love to get some feedback on.

Full Tilt Poker Game #4287888542: Table Shinnecock Hills - $5/$10 - No Limit Hold'em - 23:39:53 ET - 2007/11/24
Seat 1: tss22 ($180)
Seat 2: RecessRampage ($1,099.75)

Seat 6: bordos ($284.75)
Seat 7: sixhigh1 ($1,671.60)
Seat 8: FoldTOcash ($1,000)
Seat 9: Lincoln03 ($206)
tss22 posts the small blind of $5
RecessRampage posts the big blind of $10
The button is in seat #9
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to RecessRampage [As Kc]
PiSigma folds
JPhil007 folds
nickgolf328 folds
bordos calls $10
sixhigh1 raises to $45
FoldTOcash folds
Lincoln03 folds
tss22 folds
RecessRampage raises to $140
bordos folds
sixhigh1 has 15 seconds left to act
sixhigh1 calls $95

The villain here was a fairly loose player and since I was in the BB, I will be OOP throughout the hand so I wanted to isolate him/take it down here so I made the reraise.

*** FLOP *** [Ac Qh 8d]
RecessRampage has 15 seconds left to act
RecessRampage bets $210
sixhigh1 calls $210

The flop was obviously a very good one for me except one thing I was worried about was an AQ or 88.

*** TURN *** [Ac Qh 8d] [5h]
RecessRampage has 15 seconds left to act
RecessRampage checks
sixhigh1 checks

I thought about betting here but I only have $700 remaining. I didn't necessarily want to commit my stack with TPTK so I wanted to see what my opponent would do. Betting here would not be a bad idea. As a matter of fact, now that I am looking at this, maybe checking here is too weak?

*** RIVER *** [Ac Qh 8d 5h] [9s]
RecessRampage checks
sixhigh1 checks

On this river, I felt like there was no point in me betting. The only hand that would call me would be a hand that beats me (unless he would call with AJ but that doesn't really make sense considering the preflop action - the opponent is not an idiot). So, at the very least, if he didn't have a hand, maybe he would bet out. I was prepared to make the call if he bet, based on how the hand progressed.

*** SHOW DOWN ***
RecessRampage shows [As Kc] a pair of Aces
sixhigh1 mucks [Qs Jh]
RecessRampage wins the pot ($712) with a pair of Aces

So the fact that he had QJ did surprise me a little considering that's totally within the realm of something he could be dominated with. Nonetheless, I wondered if not betting out on the river was bad. Actually, my opinion is that it was bad. I should have bet out like $250 on the river. He might still fold but getting that kinda pot odds, it would be hard not to call. What do you guys think about the check on the turn? I think it's passable but definitely falls in a weakish territory.

Now on this following hand, it's not much of a hand analysis. But I wanted to justify my call before I made the actual call since I realize AQ is NOT a great hand to CALL an all-in with...

Full Tilt Poker Game #4287914178: Table Padre Field - $2/$4 - No Limit Hold'em - 23:42:34 ET - 2007/11/24

Full ring game (only relevant parties shown for ease of navigation)

Seat 3: RecessRampage ($524.20)
Seat 9: bushido55 ($124.40) <--- cutoff
montymole posts the small blind of $2
RecessRampage posts the big blind of $4

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to RecessRampage [Qc As]
5 players fold
bushido55 calls $4
Button and SB fold
RecessRampage raises to $14
bushido55 has 15 seconds left to act
bushido55 raises to $124.40, and is all in
RecessRampage has 15 seconds left to act
RecessRampage has requested TIME

So here's the thing... There's a guy in the CO who limps in and he's already short stacked. The pot has $30 and it's $110 more for me to call (since I raised and he's coming over the top). So, for a while, I had to think about what he would do this with. AA or KK? Possibly. But based on my observation, he was not a crafty player. So, I actually thought about this a lot longer than I probably needed to and I busted out with this gem...

RecessRampage: I'm guessing you have low pp
RecessRampage calls $110.40
bushido55 shows [2h 2d] <--- just like I called it
RecessRampage shows [Qc As]
*** FLOP *** [Kh Ah 5c] <--- FTP likes players that can call out hands
*** TURN *** [Kh Ah 5c] [4c]
*** RIVER *** [Kh Ah 5c 4c] [6c]
RecessRampage: I was right <--- rubbing it in
bushido55 shows a pair of Twos
RecessRampage shows a pair of Aces
RecessRampage wins the pot ($247.80) with a pair of Aces
bushido55 is sitting out

As long as you can justify it, it makes a donkey call alright. I hope everyone had a great weekend and for a lot of you, I will see you in a little over a week in Vegas!

Black Friday (nonpoker content)

So for those of you, international readers, the day after turkey day is referred to as the "Black Friday." It's the day when all the suckers fall for the ridiculous sales pitch, promising insane prices and myths like companies selling things "at a financial loss." And yet, each year, there are bazillion brochures in the newspapers, tons of tv commercials, advertising what time they open (generally 5am, some stores as early as 4am). I remember one year, I woke up early to go check out what all the craze was about. And so I remember going to Circuit City a little before 5am and saw a line that wrapped around the store... I never bought anything cuz at the time, I wasn't in need of anything. I just wanted to go check it out...

Well, why am I telling you this? I, just like many other people here, looked through some brochures and discovered that Circuit City was selling the Sharp Aquos 46" HDTV (1080p) for $1,299. There were a few other bargains but not quite as good as this one. So, I did the appropriate thing and started researching. Eventually, I found this forum that basically told me what I needed to know... that it was probably a pretty good buy and at the very least, for the price, I couldn't really go wrong.

So, I woke up this morning around 4:15am... yes, 4:15am... and I was at Circuit City by 4:30am... Just to see pretty much what I expected... a line that wrapped around all the way down the side of the store. However, thanks to the "research" that I did a few years back, I came well prepared. I wore sweat pants underneath my jeans and I had multiple layers on the top... and down here in VA, it's like 40 degrees (Farenheit, again, for all you international readers) so it wasn't too bad. I was able to catch up on reading some of the blogs on my Treo and so before I knew it, it was 5am, the doors opened and the line was moving! (Thank you Astin and Dr Pauly!) So, I follow the crowd and I walk in the store, just to find out that there is a TV line... well, no big deal I thought. Except with all these layers, I was starting to sweat... But I mean there are only about 30 people in front of me and obviously, they all know what they want so it can't take but so long, right? Wrong. 2.5 hrs later, I was finally telling them which TV I wanted. Nonetheless, I was able to buy a brand new, pretty decent TV at a very low price. I checked Amazon.com later and found out that they had it at $1,599 so 3 hrs in line saved me $300... not bad.

I wish I could tell you how great the picture is and stuff but I chose to have it delivered so I actually don't have it yet... nonetheless, it was a relatively fun shopping experience.

If you are reading this and you are TV savvy and you think I shoulda gone with a better LCD like Pioneer FHD or something, please keep in mind the price I got the Sharp for. One could argue that I could get something better for approximately $2,000 but then again, I don't want a marginally better TV for $800 more... but then again, if you know of a better deal, let me know so I can cancel my purchase. Now, I just have to go get a PS3 or XBox360 so I can experience the 1080p in full effect...

Oh and btw, if you think us bloggers are bunch of geeks talking poker (and I guess if you visit 2+2, I could see how the innocent might think that) but man, the AVS Forum is definitely for geeks too... and I freakin love it. I guess I'm a geek at heart.

Since I've been so busy...

Work has been kicking my ass... well, sort of. I'm just in so many meetings for all sorts of projects and such that I haven't had any time to post something meaningful. So, in the meantime, since everyone else is doing it, I took this test...

If I don't get to post anything before Thanksgiving, then happy holidays to all who celebrate that and be safe on all your travels (or your loved ones if they are traveling to you).

This is why I suck in tournaments

Fuel, maybe you'll stop picking me as your horse when you see these HH.

I played in the Mookie and I was playing well. I was making good steals and in many instances, when I didn't c-bet, I was able to induce a bet on the turn at which point I would raise and get them to fold. I was mixing up my play fairly well when this hand happened. And congrats to Mike for taking down the Mook. I guess me donking off chips to him here helped (which obv did since he posted about it on his blog).

So this is my side of the story which doesn't show in the HH. For a brief moment, I had to think about what to do here. I obv had three options. To fold, call, or reraise. And to be honest, when I first thought about this hand, my thought was "I should just fold here." But surely, that's too weak-tight. The only reason that crossed my mind was that I don't like playing AQ out of position against a solid tournament player. So, having built up a lot of chips, I figured I could wait for a better spot (esp since I was stealing with a lot worse hands when I was in position, I felt that AQ wasn't making up for me being out of position). Another thought was to reraise but I felt like that was kinda silly so in the end, I elected to call.

Mike said it on his blog about his betsizing and he bet the perfect amount to reel me in like the fish that I am. I took the bait, hook, line, and sinker. The flop was all low and Mike bet out a c-bet looking bet... a very weak one at that... so I took the bait, thinking maybe he had two high cards like me and that he would have to fold on the check raise. Very well played by him but also a very dumb move by me to spew chips like this at this point in the tournament. Bash me all you want, I know what I did and how bad that was. Hence my opening on this blog...

Again, I assume that everyone would go all in there with AK but I really hate CALLING an all in with it because if Kat's range is very wide, I'm only way ahead against hands that include an A or K. If she does QJ or below, I'm only like 60-40 or 65-35ish ahead, right? Or behind, like I was against any pair. Not that I'm complaining about AK but I'd rather be pushing with it than calling with it. Does anyone ever think that way or am I being way to passive? Maybe this has more to do with my cash game mentality...

Let's see if I can do better tonight at the Riverchasers. See you tonight.

A few tourney hands...

From the ironman freeroll, there are a couple of hands that I would like comments on. Here's the first one.

So preflop, the pot has T$1150. It's folded around to me so obviously, I have a few choices. I could fold, call, or raise. Well, at this point, I felt like folding or calling would just be bad. There's T$1150 in the pot so at this point, I felt like every pot is worth fighting for. The BB was fairly short but tight so I figured I could still steal this pot. The only problem was that if I raised to 3x the BB and he shoves, I'm pot committed. It would only be T$2237 more to call a pot that at that point would contain T$4500. So, I jammed and the rest is history. So, my first question is, is this a bad move? Should I have been more patient? Should I have raised less? Is calling an option here? I'd love your thoughts.

Then, later, this is the hand I busted out on. Personally, I am ok with my move and I think I would do this almost every time at this stage of the tournament. To give a quick background. We're down to 49 players and basically 4 more players to bust out before another $30 money bump. The blinds and antes are going up significantly and most people's M is below 5. Still, my stack was enough to put a good dent to most people so I was going to ramp up my aggression. And then this happens.

The big stack limps from late position and the SB completes. At this point, I figured A4 was good enough to shove. Actually, I probably would shove here with ATC but LJ didn't like my shove with A4. She said that she hates shoving with A-rag. Personally, I would agree with that statement if I'm shoving from EP or if I'm shoving over the top of a raise. But the LP limp made me think he either had AA or he was weak. If he had Ax, he would have to raise, right? If he had KK, that's quite a gamble to let potentially two other people see the flop. So, the only "good" hand that he could do that with, IMO, was AA and since I had one A, I thought it might be unlikely. And so based on those things, I shoved, hoping to get a fold and pick up 3 BBs plus the antes. Again, since the pot is so big, I felt that I would have to fight for every pot. So, the question is, do you think this was a bad move? Should I just check and basically give up on the pot after the flop? To be honest, I was surprised with the call. The only reason he makes that call is because he had a big enough stack that even if he loses, it's only a third of his stack. And maybe that's what should have made me not shove. In other words, shoving on a big stack may not be the best thing to do. Any thoughts would be appreciated here.

7 more stuff and some hand histories

Ok, before I get started, since JamyHawk tagged me, here's a quick 7 things about me. I just did these like few weeks back so these will be short and sweet:

1. I hate being told to calm down. Esp when I'm drunk. So I'm feisty and loud. But don't tell me to calm down. That really irks me. Actually, it pisses me off.

2. I am bad with movie/tv show cast names. When I have to describe a movie and someone asks "who was in it?" I generally can't answer. I'm actually pretty much retarded when it comes to that. I don't really have any infatuation over celebrities.

3. I love white girls. Like semi hot white girl trumps hot non-white girls. I'm not a racist. That just happens to be my preference. Like that secretary girl from "The Office" (I don't know her name - see my #2 above) > Lucy Liu or Beyonce or other non-Caucasian women. That's just my personal preference. It doesn't mean I don't like non-Caucasian women. It's just a matter of taste. Like I prefer beef over chicken. I prefer white girls over non-white girls.

4. I used to be anti strip clubs. I just didn't understand what was so great about watching naked girls dance around poles. That was, however, until I discovered the Rhino in Vegas. I won't go into details but that place changed everything for me.

5. I have major Asian complex. Not that I'm not proud of my heritage or my country because I am. But I still have this big complex about being Asian. Maybe it's cuz I live in the South...

6. It's not that I have a short temper but it requires very little to set me off. I stopped listening to the Jim Rome show and boycotted for like several years after he bashed soccer during one of the World Cups. Now, I've come to grips with his hatred for soccer and I am a devoted clone.

7. I really can't think of anything anymore. Well... I used to be a big eater. In one sitting, I've put down 3 footlong subs from subway. One time, I also had 48oz of steak (they had a 12 oz prime rib special and I had 4 of them). The chef came out to see who I was. This was pre-hot dog eating japanese dude. I can't remember his name... see #2.

Ok, now that I got that out of the way, here's some HH. I haven't done this in a while...

I'm guessing most people will hate this play. But I did have a read...

A known aggro player reraises me from MP. If this was a different seating arrangement, things could be really different. In other words, if I were on the button and he was in the BB, I think his reraising range is a little wider. But, considering I raised from EP and he reraised in MP, I figured he must have a pretty strong hand so at this point, I called, hoping to hit a set.

This flop sucked. Or so I thought. I pretty much gave up but I hesitated before I checked. He then checked behind.

*** TURN *** [Kd Ah 5c] [9d]
RecessRampage bets $95
chislodc has 15 seconds left to act
chislodc calls $95

Based on the check above, I had the impression that he either has a monster like AA or KK, or he has QQ or JJ and hates the above flop, esp since I raised from EP initially. So, I decided to try to steal this pot.

Now as much as I didn't enjoy his call, I didn't mind it as much. I peg him as an aggressive player and at this point, if he had a hand, I felt that he would raise to build the pot. I also know that he knows I'm capable of betting out with a lesser hand because he checked the flop. So, my read here is that he didn't have either A or a K.

*** RIVER *** [Kd Ah 5c 9d] [Th]
RecessRampage bets $150
chislodc has 15 seconds left to act
chislodc folds
Uncalled bet of $150 returned to RecessRampage

RecessRampage wins the pot ($349)

At this point, I figured the river was harmless. Sure, TT could be possibly but seemed very unlikely. I figured it had to be QQ. So I bet out $150. I wanted to bet out an amount that looked like I was unsure but I didn't mind getting called. In other words, a bet that I might throw out if I had a hand like AQ or AK. I also wanted to bet enough to make it tough to call. $150 felt like a good amount and after he thought about it for a little, he folded.

I can see some of you hating this play but this style works for me.

This was fairly poorly played by me but the other player played it worse and saved me some money.

PAPT Pwnage!!!

*Home game* related.

But, before I start, few more blogs I'm adding to my blog list.

Kajagugu (took down the MATH for a seat to the Aussie Millions - and yes, Kaja, I am fairly bluffable - no offense taken on your blog)

PirateLawyer (another lawyer, another Canadian - WTF!?)

CzechRazor (as you can guess from the blog address, kind of an angry blog... in a dark humor kinda way... which is pretty much right up my alley - I mean one of his entries start with "Not only do massive downswings make me want to throw a kitten into traffic ..." and he's got a picture of a kitten... LOL)

So, go check them out. If it's not your thing, it's not your thing.

So, I've talked about the PAPT before. The Park Avenue Poker Tour, a home game of 8 to 11 players, basically a weekly sng style format where the top 3 generally gets points and top 2 or 3 (depending on number of players) gets paid. One with most points at the end of the year gets the side pot which at the end of the year is approx $600 (weekly buy-in is $25).

Well, up until this point, I hadn't played as much. Well, I have started to but early in the year, I wasn't showing up to those as much. Well, ever since something in me clicked, I started showing up and quite frankly, I have started to dominate in that thing. In the past 15 weeks, I probably showed up in maybe like 12 of them? I've won em out right in 6 of those occasions and came in 2nd once. And tonight, once again, pwned! I am now in first place of the PAPT Player of the Year standings and I have no intention of letting go.

Some interesting hands -

Early on, I was mixing it up and building a decent sized stack when I stacked a guy with my AK of diamonds when the money went all in on a J high flop with two diamonds and I made my nut flush on the turn. The guy played his underpair like AA but with a minimum of 9 outs (possibly 15 outs since I thought maybe QQ) twice and him being all in and the pot offering me 2:1, it was a fairly no brainer call.

So, with a decent sized stack, I was seeing a lot of flops. One hand, I was on the button with 3-6 (sooted) when the blinds were... 3-6... a short stack limped... and so I called as well. The blinds are in and the flop comes A-10-7. It was checked around to me and since everyone limped, I thought it was quite possible that no one had the ace. So I bet 22 into a pot that had 24. The blinds fold and the short stack goes all in... literally, my hand caught in the cookie jar... we laughed about it, I told them how I really didn't want to call cuz I had absolutely had nothing... but it was only 14 more to me. Pot had 68. One guy goes "you probably have 9 high or something." So I tell him I don't have a card that's higher than what's on the board. And right on cue, Tyke says "you probably have 3-6 or some shit like that." Amen. I call, flip over my cards thinking I'm gonna need running 3s, 6s, or two more spades to complete my runner runner flush. Well, one thing I didn't think about was a runner runner straight which I got when the 5 on the turn and the 4 on the river comes. Gross. I told you this was the house of bad beats. Oh the victim? He had AK.

And as usual, PAPT delivered the bad beats like they were going out of style. One hand, there was a 3 way preflop all in. QQ vs TT vs 88. Before the flop comes, when they all flipped over the cards, I pointed at 88 and said "he's the favorite in this house." Sure enough, 8 on the flop sends the TT home and cripples Tyke who had the QQ.

Well, there was one noteworthy thing that happened. As an online player, I personally think I'm at a huge disadvantage when I play live poker. I mean I don't have as much training on picking up tells or concealing my tells. I do my best and to the undiscerning eye, they might not notice but I keep thinking that I could be read so easily if I played against very good players. But last night, I picked up on something interesting. There was a hand where my buddy JT (igniyomontoya76 on FTP) was in a hand with another guy. Flop comes Q-10-3. There's a bet and JT makes a call that looked like "ok I'll see another card". Turn is an ace. And then he did something. I won't disclose what but I noticed something and I just kept that in mind. Fortunately, the hand went to show down and he showed A-3. So, when the turn gave him second pair and undoubtedly the better hand, he gave off a tell. Rest of the night, I literally watched him in order to confirm my read. And I picked up on two things that he did differently when he had a strong hand vs when he wanted his opponent to fold. I'm not gonna disclose it here (and I already told JT about it afterwards) so you PAPTers that read this, you'll have to figure it out on your own.

Well, keeping the above information in mind, like I said, I spent the rest of the night watching him and confirming my reads. Then, once three handed, JT and I got into a decent hand. I had 6-8 of clubs so I raised from the small blind to 100 (blinds were 20-40, I think). Of course, pure steal. JT calls. Flop comes 2-3-5 with one club. I contemplated betting here. But if I did, he's certainly capable of raising at which point I have to fold. So I checked to him since I do have a gut shot draw and a runner runner flush draw, I thought maybe I can see a free card. Well, he did what any half decent poker player would do by betting 100 and trying to steal the pot. I wasn't convinced that this flop hit him. So, since I knew it was a steal attempt, I wanted to get more information. I started counting out my chips and that's when my whole night of observation came to fruition. JT did something that I noticed him doing earlier when he wanted his opponent to fold. Like I said, I spent all night confirming my reads so if I couldn't pull the trigger, I should just quit poker. So I shoved. "I'm all in." Yep, with 8-high with a gut shot straight draw. He did not seem to like that and he thought about it a long time before he folded adding "don't do that again." JT is good enough to know that I was capable of doing this with air. But he probably didn't have anything either and he wasn't going to be the bubble boy (only top 2 paid) by CALLING an all in with nothing.

That proved to be the turning point where I amassed a big chip lead and JT got eliminated when his 44 lost to a race against Brent's KQ, our HU match didn't last long and the final hand, I won with 99 against his J-8 when he was fairly shortstacked.

And THAT is how I pwn PAPT. Woooooooot! I'm in 1st place, biatches!

So I should be playing more poker...

There's a common misconception going around here. I think a lot of people think that I play poker all the time. And I feel like I do. But then again, when I really think about it, I only play about an hour or two every day. I mean we only have but so many nonworking hours to do something right? See, here's how my daily schedule usually breaks down.

I work from 8ish till about 6 or 7ish. I put the -ish because there are days I don't go in till about 9. So anyways, let's just say I get off of work at 6:30. I obviously would eat dinner and then every other day, I try to hit the gym. Remember those YMCA points? Yeah, I'm working on it. I've accumulated over 3,500pts. If I get to the 15,000 pt range which is the first stage of the points pyramid, I get a YMCA key chain. Yeah, f*ckin fabulous. So anyways, by the time I am done with all that, it's generally 9-9:30. That's around the time my poker playing starts. So, I guess there are days I play 2+ hrs but again, it's not like I play bazillion hands in a month or anything.

Well, I saw this post by cmitch and I just about died. 50k hands in one month!? But anyways, I thought, that's kinda cool. So I thought maybe I'll see how my last 20k hands have been for me.

*Dear pokergods/FTP RNG, please don't interpret this as a brag post (which it kinda is). Please also don't switch on the "screw RecessRampage" switch either. I know what you did to cmitch. It's pretty gross, IMO, and I don't want to have to deal with that. Thank you for your understanding.*

Ok, now that I got out of the way, here's my last 20k hands which for me is like over the course of 3 months...

If I just filter it to only 2-4NL which is what I primarily play, it's pretty similar except I guess with a little less variance.

Not bad. Man, so if I just play more poker, I guess I'd even be more profitable. But since I had to talk about it on my blog, I guess now I've jinxed it... dammit...

Also... For those of you on bloglines or whatever else you use to monitor my blog. You can thank Kaja. The full feed should now be available. It will still be nice if you stop by once in a while and leave comments. You know, so I know I cool I am.

What time was it in Spain when you got pwned???

So here I am, mulling around on a Sunday after my weekly call to my parents in Japan (the phone bill adds up!!!), watching football and playing some poker when I get this pleasant comment from this MTT donk.

Sick to see you needed the best RB performance EVER to beat me...

GG

Well, I'm sure it was like 3am in Spain when he left that comment so maybe he wasn't aware of my other playa that is Tony Romo. I mean at the end, I only needed Adrian Peterson to get like 10 pts and that woulda been enough. I didn't need the "best RB performance EVER" to beat you!!!! Around these parts, there's a term for what my team did to yours.

PWNED!!!!
